This is a summary of what we believe.
You can read the EFCA's full statement of faith at this link.
GOD IS REAL.
He is one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
He made and rules everything.
He lovingly cares about everyone and everything.
Isaiah 40:28 (ESV)
Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
His understanding is unsearchable
1 John 4:9-10 (NLT)
God showed how much He loves us by sending His one and only Son into the world
so that we might have eternal life through Him.
This is real love - not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son
as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
JESUS IS GOD, SAVIOR, AND COMING KING.
Jesus is God Almighty, the Second Member of the Trinity.
He chose to come to earth to give His life as a ransom for sinful humans.
After His death, He actually rose to life on the third day.
Then He ascended into heaven where He has prepared a place for all believers
and will come back to forever destroy sin and undo all of its destructive consequences on the universe.
John 1:1 (ESV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)
For unto us a child is born, to us a Son is given;
and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
1 Peter 2:24 (ESV)
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree (cross), that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.
By His wounds you have been healed.
John 14:3 (ESV)
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again
and take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also.
Mark 13:26 (ESV)
Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory.
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT WORKS IN THE LIVES OF PEOPLE
TO BRING THEM CLOSER TO JESUS AND THE FATHER.
The Spirit convicts, illumines, indwells, and equips all who believe in Christ so that they may reflect God's character.
John 16:7-8 & 13-14 (NLT)
But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate (Spirit) won't come.
If I do go away, then I will send Him to you.
And when He comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth.
He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard.
He will you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever He receives from me.
John 14:16-17 (ESV)
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
because it neither sees Him nor knows Him.
You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
THE BIBLE IS TRUE.
The Bible is completely accurate and authoritative on every topic it presents.
Therefore, it is to be studied to know the truth as well as to know God and how to please Him.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true
and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.
I have stored up your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
HUMANS WERE MADE TO REFLECT GOD.
God created humans to reflect His character of goodness, love, authority, and purity.
God created us with the gift of free will (the ability to make choices)
and with relational capabilities (the ability to connect with God and other people).
Gen 1:27 (ESV)
So God created human beings in His own image.
In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.
1 Peter 1:15-16 (NLT)
But now you must be holy in everything you do,
just as God who chose you is holy.
For the Scriptures say, "You must be holy because I am holy."
HUMANS MUST TRUST IN JESUS FOR SALVATION
AND ETERNAL LIFE IN HEAVEN.
All people have sinned by not perfectly reflecting God's character.
This makes all people imperfect which disqualifies them from entering heaven.
However, Jesus' death, resurrection, and ascension provides eternal forgiveness to all who believe in Him.
Acts 16:31 (ESV)
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.
John 3:16 (ESV)
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
ALL WHO BELIEVE IN JESUS
BECOME MEMBERS OF JESUS' CHURCH.
All who believe in Jesus are united with Him.
This unity includes being adopted as God's son/daughter
and it unifies all believers in the family of God. This is called the Church.
Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)
God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.
This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure.
Ephesians 4:4-6 (NLT)
There is one body and one Spirit - just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call -
one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13 (NLT)
The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body.
So it is with the body of Christ.
Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free.
But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
